Impressions from Dunedin and Southland Regions:

1 - Otago Peninsula with Taiaroa Head, the well-protected nature reserve and Royal Albatross Centre

2 - Dunedin Botanic Garden

3 - Nugget Point, the iconic landform on the Otago coast and home of many seabird and seal colonies

4 - Tunnel Beach, sea-carved sandstone cliffs south of Dunedin

Taiaroa Head at Otago Peninsular, the protected nature reserve with the only mainland royal albatross breeding colony in the southern hemisphere. The area is also home to significant colonies of shags, gulls, waders and little blue penguins.

2 - Dunedin Botanic Garden celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2013 and is New Zealands first botanic garden. There are some 6,800 plant species, including more than 2,000 rhododendrons, an important Camellia collection, an Arboretum and a native plant collection.

3 - Nugget Point with a lighthouse at the tip of a steep headland, surrounded by rocky islets (The Nuggets). The point is home of many seabirds, including royal spoonbill, gannets, shags, the black-backed gulls/Karoro, and penguins, and a large breeding colony of fur seals.

4 - Tunnel Beach, the magnificent sea-carved sandstone cliffs, rock arches and caves. The popular walking track descends 150 m down to a tunnel that leads to a secluded beach with fossil filled cliffs: named as "the most romantic spot near Dunedin".
